This video shows the incoming and outgoing aircraft at the airport Vienna.
It was part of a work of art displayed on the tower of the airport, concentrating on the fear of the foreigner.

Thoughts behind

People arriving in a city bring along narratives, experiences, knowledge and emotions from where they come from.

People departing from a city take narratives, experiences, knowledge and emotions to their destinations.

Cities welcoming these people with open arms are places that allow themselves to be entered by new narratives, experiences and knowledge. Cities rejecting the unfamiliar are places of interactive silence, constriction and limitation.

A city that lives, breathes and vibrates openly meets the unfamiliar on the basis of its own identity. It is a place able to absorb and pass on whatever incomers bring without fear of losing its identity or prestige.

Today, international airports are among the places where this process begins and ends. The work at hand visualises this process, illustrates it, structures it and thus makes it perceivable – thereby broaching the issue of one of the fundamental fears of our time: the fear of the foreign/er.

14 days were individual pictures of this project on the Tower at Vienna International Airport in Schwechat on an area of 3200 m2 to see.

It was the second art project ever shown at the Tower and the result of a close collaboration with half a dozen professionals.

Menschen, die in einer Stadt ankommen, sind Menschen, die Erzählungen, Erfahrungen, Wissen und Gefühle von dort mitbringen, woher sie kommen. Menschen, die abreisen sind Menschen, die Erzählungen, Erfahrungen, Wissen und Gefühle dorthin mitbringen, wohin sie reisen.

Städte, die diese Menschen offen empfangen, sind Orte an denen neue Erzählungen, Erfahrungen und Wissen einfliessen. Städte, die dieses Neue verweigern, sind Orte der interaktiven Stille, der Verengung und Einschränkung.

Eine Stadt, die atmet, pulsiert, lebt, ist ein Ort, der dem Neuen auf der Grundlage seiner eigenen Identität offen begegnet und dieses Neue durch Ankommende aufnehmen kann, ohne das Eigene zu verlieren und durch Wegreisende Neues weitergeben kann ohne sich etwas zu vergeben.

Ein Punkt an dem dieser Prozess beginnt und endet sind heute die internationalen Flughäfen mit dem Flugverkehr, der über diese Flughäfen abgewickelt wird. Die gezeigte Arbeit legt daher in seiner Visualisierung diesen Prozess offen, illustriert ihn, strukturiert ihn und macht ihn damit erlebbar- und thematisiert damit auch eine der großen Ängste unserer Zeit: die Angst vor dem/n Fremden.

14 Tage waren einzelnen Bilder dieser Installation am Flughafentower in Schwechat auf einer Fläche von 3200 m2 zu sehen.

Es war das das zweite Kunstprojekt, das jemals am Tower gezeigt wurde und das Ergebnis einer engen Zusammenarbeit mit einem halben Dutzend Profis.
